Nagpur Metro Guide: Lines, Stations and What Phase 2 Will Change
The Nagpur Metro has changed how the city moves, and Phase 2 will nearly double the network. Here is a complete picture — how it works today, what it costs, and what is being built.

The Nagpur Metro network today
Nagpur Metro Phase 1 runs two lines that cross at Sitabuldi in the city centre — the interchange station for the whole system.
Orange Line (north–south)
18 active stations: Khapri, New Airport, Airport, Ujwal Nagar, Jayprakash Nagar, Chhatrapati Square, Ajni Square, Rahate Colony, Congress Nagar, Sitabuldi, Zero Mile, Kasturchand Park, Gaddigodam Square, Kadvi Square, Indora Square, Nari Road and Automotive Square.
Aqua Line (east–west)
20 active stations including: Prajapati Nagar, Vaishno Devi Square, Ambedkar Square, Telephone Exchange, Chittar Oli Square, Agrasen Square, Dosar Vaisya Square, Nagpur Railway Station, Sitabuldi, Jhansi Rani Square, Institute of Engineers, Shankar Nagar Square, LAD Square, Dharampeth College, Subhash Nagar, Rachana Ring Road Junction, Vasudev Nagar and Bansi Nagar.

Find any metro station on Google Maps. The Airport station on the Orange Line opened on 8 March 2019, serving the Sonegaon area, with a feeder bus connecting to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport.
What Phase 2 adds
Phase 2 was sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹6,708 crore. A tripartite agreement between the Centre, the Government of Maharashtra and Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) was signed in September 2023, with the state committing an equity share of ₹998.20 crore. In July 2026 the state additionally approved a ₹310 crore, 1.4 km extension of the Kamptee corridor beyond the Kanhan river into Kanhan town.
Phase 2 covers 43.8 km and adds 32 new stations across four corridors. Rather than creating new lines, it extends both existing ones outward. In construction terms: 42.6 km of elevated track with 30 stations, plus a 1.2 km at-grade section with 2 stations.

When the Nagpur Metro extension opens
The original target was 2026, but delays in approvals pushed completion to November 2027. The work has been split into stages that open progressively rather than all at once:

Why the Hingna and Butibori extensions matter most
For daily riders the two industrial extensions are the economically significant part of the Nagpur Metro expansion. Hingna MIDC and Butibori MIDC are the largest industrial belts around Nagpur, and thousands of people commute to both daily by road. Converting that into a predictable rail commute changes the labour market for both estates — it widens the area from which they can realistically recruit.
For property, the pattern seen in other Indian metro cities is consistent: land near planned end-of-line stations appreciates well before services actually begin, and the gains concentrate around interchange and terminal stations rather than along the middle of a corridor.
Practical tips for Nagpur Metro riders

- Sitabuldi is the only interchange. Any journey crossing between the lines passes through it.
- For the airport, the Orange Line Airport station plus feeder bus works, but factor in the connection time if you are close to a departure.
- Smart cards are cheaper than single tokens for regular travel and avoid the counter queue at peak times.
- Last train is 10 pm — earlier than metros in the larger metros. Plan late evenings accordingly.
