NMC Online Services: How to Pay Nagpur Property Tax and Water Bills
Paying your Nagpur property tax or water bill should be simple, and mostly it is once you know where to look. Most people only deal with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation when something is due or something is broken, and the process is never as obvious as it should be. This guide covers what you can do online, how to do it, and what to have ready before you start.
All links below go to the official NMC portals.

Before you start: find your numbers
Almost every NMC service asks for an identifier you are unlikely to remember:
- Property tax — your property index number or consumer number. It appears on any previous tax receipt.
- Water bill — your water consumer number, printed on previous bills.
- Photograph an old receipt of each and keep it on your phone. It saves the search every single time.
Paying Nagpur property tax online
- Go to the NMC website.
- From the Services section, select ‘Pay Your Property Tax’ — or go direct to the NMC property tax portal.
- Enter your property index or consumer number to pull up your assessment.
- Check the assessment details and outstanding amount.
- Pay online and download the receipt immediately.
The portal also lets you view payment history, check assessment details, use a tax calculator and download past receipts.
Worth knowing: NMC has historically offered a rebate for early payment in the financial year. On a larger property the saving is meaningful, so paying in April rather than at the deadline is worth the diary note. Check current rebate terms on the NMC site.
Paying water bills alongside Nagpur property tax
Water bill payments run through the same Online Services section of the NMC website. As with property tax, you will need the consumer number from a previous bill. The process mirrors the property tax flow — look up, verify, pay, download receipt.
The My Nagpur app
NMC’s My Nagpur app brings several citizen services into one place, including water supply, electricity, property tax and other civic services. For routine payments it is quicker than the desktop site, and it is generally the more reliable route for lodging complaints — app complaints are ticketed and traceable in a way phone calls are not.
Use the app to report waterlogging, fallen trees, blocked drains, streetlight failures and garbage collection problems.
If you would rather pay in person
Nagpur property tax is accepted in cash, by cheque or demand draft, or online, and can be paid at any of the ten zonal offices of the Property Tax Department. Find your nearest NMC zonal office.
How Nagpur property tax is calculated
NMC assesses property tax on the basis of the property’s characteristics — its area, type of construction, usage (residential or commercial) and location within the city. The published assessment on your bill breaks this down. NMC publishes an explanation of the assessment method in its FAQ section.
If you believe an assessment is wrong, the correction route runs through your zonal office rather than the online portal, and you will need supporting documents.
Practical advice on Nagpur property tax
- Download every receipt at the time of payment. Retrieving it months later is considerably harder.
- Pay early in the financial year if a rebate is on offer.
- Use the app for complaints — you get a ticket number, which gives you something to follow up with.
- Keep a folder, digital or physical, of tax receipts. They are needed for property sale, loan applications and mutation.
- Check the assessment, not just the amount. Errors in recorded area or usage type persist for years if nobody queries them.
