Rakhi Special Exhibition — 12 to 13 August

A two-day lifestyle and shopping fair timed for Raksha Bandhan. Expect stalls of ethnic wear, fashion accessories, home decor, children’s gifts and festival decorations, with food and refreshments on site. Useful if you are buying rakhi gifts and would rather see things in person than scroll.
World Photography Day Photo Exhibition — 19 August
- When: Wednesday 19 August, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
- Where: Raman Science Centre and Planetarium, Nagpur
- Entry: Free to view the exhibition. Normal gallery charges apply if you also want to visit the science centre itself.

The Raman Science Centre marks World Photography Day with a competition and exhibition on the theme Science Through the Lens. Entries come from both amateur and working photographers, and the selected images go on display with prizes awarded. Worth an hour if you shoot, and a good outing with children.

A Hindi pop and Bollywood concert backed by a fourteen-piece live band. Rushabh Jain has spent years performing at weddings and this is his first self-curated standalone show, so expect a set built around familiar film numbers and dance tracks rather than deep cuts.
September events in Nagpur
Swar Sharma — Hindustani classical vocal — 8 September
- When: Tuesday 8 September, 6:30 pm

An evening of khayal and classical vocal music from the Mewati gharana lineage, with dilruba and tabla accompaniment. Tamarind Hall is a small room, which is exactly right for this kind of recital — you hear the detail you would lose in an auditorium. Traditional dress is encouraged but not required.
Marbat Utsav — around 11 to 12 September
- When: Tanha Pola, the day after Pola. Pola 2026 falls on 10 or 11 September depending on the panchang followed, so Marbat is expected on 11 or 12 September. Confirm locally closer to the date.

Marbat is Nagpur’s own festival and nothing else in Maharashtra looks quite like it. Two enormous effigies — Kali Marbat (black) and Pivli Marbat (yellow), built from clay, hay and cloth — are carried in a procession of roughly ten kilometres through the lanes of Itwari and East Nagpur, and then burnt.
The custom began in the late nineteenth century as a farmers’ ritual: clay figures representing pests and evil were placed around homes on Pola and burnt the following day to drive them from the fields. Over time the effigies took on political meaning. The Kali Marbat is associated with the Bhonsla queen Baka Bai, who surrendered to the British, and the burning became a way of expressing public anger at that. The Pivli Marbat, made by the Tarhane Teli community, stands for British rule and for epidemics and disease.
It is loud, extremely crowded and worth seeing at least once. Go early, wear shoes you can walk in, and keep valuables secure.
December events in Nagpur
Nagpur Wine and Food Festival — 6 to 7 December
- When: Sunday 6 and Monday 7 December (dates based on the previous edition — confirm with the organisers)
- Where: Chitnavis Centre, Temple Road, Civil Lines
- Tickets: around ₹1,000 per day per person, ₹1,800 for two — includes a tasting glass and tasting pours at participating stalls
- Age: 21 and over, ID checked at entry

Central India’s largest wine and food event, with Indian and imported labels, gourmet food stalls, live music and the grape-stomping contest that everybody photographs. Smart casual dress. This one sells advance passes and the dates have shifted between editions, so check before making plans around it.
Know before you go
- Confirm before travelling. Dates and timings for festivals and independently organised fairs change more often than you would expect. Where we have marked an event to confirm, the date is our best information rather than an announcement.
- Book paid events early. Nagpur’s ticketed concerts sell out — the Mahesh Kale concert on 8 August was sold out well before the day.
- Free does not mean walk in. Several free events issue passes from an office in advance.
- Parking at Civil Lines and Ramdaspeth venues is difficult on event evenings. Allow extra time.
